Rossi: We'll need to battle without fear against Serbia
At Friday's official press conference before the home European qualifier against Serbia on Saturday, Hungary Men's head coach Marco Rossi emphasised that his squad is preparing to play in the same proactive style that the home crowd has come to expect in recent months.
Rossi's charges have been in Telki since Monday in order to prepare for Saturday's group stage match against Serbia, a game in which they can take another important step towards qualification for the European Championship. Hungary's head coach will take charge of his first match since officially becoming a Hungarian citizen and has stated his side will need to take a determined approach into the game.
"Our preparation has been the same as for our previous matches. Fighting for participation in the European Championship is still the number one task, so this is why we have set ourselves the goal of winning at least six points over the next three matches," Rossi told waiting reporters. "We must repel Serbia's attacks and play football according to our own principles when we have the ball. We want to play a battling, fearless game! There is no talk of complacency within the team. At the same time, in my opinion, our supporters greatly appreciate the attitude with which our players play football. They are not afraid of contests, or, where appropriate, of battles, and they are ready to face any opponent bravely and fearlessly".
Goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz was also present and added that of course, Willi Orbán will be sorely missed in the defence, but that the team will find a suitable replacement for the injured RB Leipzig defender.
"After four games, we're at the top of the group with ten points, so everyone here wants to maintain our position. This desire, as well as the fact that everyone is behind us and there will be a full house in the Puskás Aréna, will only help us. The defence is used to playing in a certain formation, but this may chang now due to Willi's injury. His absence is a big loss, but during our preparations, we have created the necessary plans to adequately replace him", Dibusz assured the media present.
The European qualifier against Serbia will be refereed by Frenchman François Letexier. His assistants will be Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni, and the fourth official will be Jérémy Stinat.
At Serbia's press event on the same day, head coach Dejan Stojkovic was adamant his team want to make up for the three points they lost in Belgrade last month.
"Hungary has a very good, well-organised team and we saw this in Belgrade, so we have come here to recover the points we lost there. Just as they want to play even better than they did there, we also want to play better than last time. As a result, I think that the two teams will contest a good match tomorrow", Stojkovic opined.
