Sigér: It's fabulous to play in the Puskás Aréna

Hungary head coach Marco Rossi said before the final Nations League qualifying group match against Turkey that he wanted to make his mark on the history of the Hungarian national team and feels that he may already have achieved this goal, but that he'd be delighted if the national team won their Nations League group too. Meanwhile, midfielder Dávid Sigér emphasised it's an honour to play competitive matches in such a stadium as the Puskás Arena.

Marco Rossi again joined Hungary's pre-match press conference online:

"In this match against Turkey, we can enter the pitch in the best possible psychological condition, having won against Iceland and earned a good draw with Serbia. In the lhe latter, I preferred the first half because we lost a lot of momentum for the second half, but overall we performed well," Rossi opined. "The Turkish national team is full of excellent players who are in top European leagues too. We will try to make up for this with good team-play. If we work together properly on the pitch, the individuals in our national team can also stand out".

Of course, absences will also play a part, no more so than with Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored the winning goal against Iceland and has already left the team's training centre to return to his club Salzburg in Austria. In this regard, Marco Rossi stated that he trusts his players who are already in the squad and have the required confidence for successful football.

"It would be pointless to invite players to the last matchday who haven't been with us so far. We'll continue with this squad and my confidence in everyone is total. Now that we've played several matches, everyone has been given the opportunity... some more, some less, but even the newcomers have played, for example, Kecskés, who played for 90 minutes last time. We've had to deal with a lot of uncertainty recently and have had to perform in a particularly tense situation in these past two-and-a-half months. Having said that, this period now has proved that through the work invested, the team has earned the respect of the international football community, which is something I'm especially proud of".

Journalists also inquired about the future of the head coach. In his reply, the Italian stated his contract runs for another year, and although he had received interesting offers over the past year and a half, he had rejected all of them and was open to remaining head coach even after his current contract expired.

"I wanted to make my mark on the history of the Hungarian men's national team, I wanted to make it a memorable time when I was sitting on the bench. I have achieved this goal and now I’m just thinking about tomorrow’s match and how to achieve the best possible performance there".

Rossi also admitted that he'd received a lot of congratulatory messages from fans and his family after the defeat of Iceland.

"I was touched by those messages sent by Hungarian fans who don't even know me. I was gladdened by the joy and recognition I felt in these, and it flowed not only through me but to the staff and the players too".

Returning to the game against Turkey, Rossi also discussed the team’s second aim after the success against Iceland, which is to win their Nations League group.

"I will ask the players to try to maintain the quality of our game, our attack, for 90 minutes. However, this is an almost impossible task as this will be our third match in six days. To do this, we will have to learn to reserve our energies during the match".

Midfielder Dávid Sigér was the man on media duty this time and he was first asked about his condition, as he has recently been selected to play in many important matches for his club, Ferencváros, as well as the national team.

"Playing in such top-level matches are sweet burdens in a footballer's life. If you are charged up with so much positive energy and you have already played so many successful matches, you can call on extra strength. As an sportsman, the goal can only be to achieve more and get the most out of our careers. At such times, I don’t think about how many matches I've played and whether or not I’m tired. I will try my best to recover as quickly as possible and be able to benefit the team in the next match too. I’m so glad we’ve been able to make a lot of people happy with our performances these days, because they need these sporting successes".

On the venue of the matches, the Puskás Arena, Sigér said he's glad that we have a venue worthy of international matches in the capital city.

"I remember when this amazing arena was built and we just watched from the streets outside, because it stood out from the buildings. I told my wife I wish I could play here just once in a competitive match..."

Hungary versus Turkey kicks off at 20:45 CET on Wednesday evening. If Hungary can better Russia's result against Sergia the same night, Rossi's team will top their Nations League qualifying group.
