Three debutants boost Hungary ahead of Serbia and Czech contests
Men's national-team head coach Marco Rossi can't count on several of his regulars due to injuries, but Péter Gulácsi is selected after recovering from a serious knee injury and three new players will join the squad for the first time.
Rossi's squad will travel to Belgrade to take on Serbia in the European qualifiers on 7th September, before returning to Budapest to host the Czech Republic in an international friendly in the Puskás Aréna on 10th September. Serbia is the strongest team in Hungary's European qualifying group, most of their players playing in Europe's top leagues every week. The Czech Republic leads its qualifying group ahead of Albania and Poland, and in June they defeated one of our current European qualifying rivals, Montenegro, 4-1 in Podgorica, having also just defeated Poland 3-1. Hungary, for whom Rossi has selected 25 players in his squad can therefore expect two very difficult matches this coming September.
The Hungary squad:

Currently we're unable to select seven players who are usually members of the squad", Rossi told mlsz.hu. "Unfortunately, September is usually problematic, because players may not yet have a team (for the new season when we make the selections), some are injured or aren't playing for their clubs for various reasons. Of course, this also means that, in addition to returning players such as Attila Fiola and Péter Gulácsi, we now have the opportunity to invite three newcomers to the squad. However, it is important to emphasise that these all deserve selection on the basis of their recent performances. (Mihály) Kata is playing regularly, has started the championship impressively and sees things very well tactically, and I can say the same about (Soma) Szuhodovszki and (Krisztofer) Horváth also possesses very good qualities; he needs to continue the development that we have seen from him in recent times, but he is on a very good path. The excellent technical work done at Kecskemét is clearly shown by the selection of three of the club's players to the squad and in addition, they play in a system where the principles are much the same as ours. In this case, where a team has very little time to work together, it can be a huge help if as many people as possible come from a team that plays according to the same principles as ours".
Hungary Men will meet in Telki on Monday, September 4, and then on Wednesday they will travel to Belgrade, the venue of the match against Serbia. The match will be played behind closed doors because the Serbian Football Association recently received a one-match punishment, so their squad comprised of the following players will have to face Hungary without the backing of their fans in the stadium.

"Our strongest opponent will be Serbia and our most important match will be against them", Rossi continued. "They have 31 players in their squad, almost all of which play in top leagues, so they will have a very strong and talented team. They are clearly favourites to win, but at the same time, as every time, we'll try to make their lives as difficult as possible and at least gain a point. Our opponent in Budapest, the Czech national team, is also very strong and are only one place behind us in the world rankings. They have talented young players as well as experienced individuals playing in the top leagues. What I always say is also true now, that the result in a friendly match is also important but at the same time, in the Puskás Arena, we want to give an opportunity to those who've played fewer minutes in recent matches but have also worked very well in our national-team training sessions".
The Czechs will also announce their squad today. Information on buying tickets for the match against the Czech Republic has been collected in our article hereunder:
