Vágó, Szabó and Napsugár scoop women's football awards
In addition to the Women's Simple league championship title, Ferencváros can also boast about two individual prize winners, Fanny Vágó and Viktória Szabó being recognised at the 2022-23 season-closing Rangadó award ceremony while Puskás Akadémia's Sinka Napsugár scooped the Discovery of the Year accolade.
.
Ferencváros ended the 2022-2023 season with championship victory, so it was perhaps no surprise that some of the club's players featured at the Rangadó award ceremony, where winners were announced in three female categories (best player, top goalscorer and discovery of the year). The awards were presented by national-team head coach Margret Kratz and head of the women's department at MLSZ, Dorka Dénes. The award for the Women's Simple League's best player went to Viktória Szabó, the 74-time Hungary international defender who plays for FTC-Telekom, while the season's top goalscorer award went to Fanny Vágó for her 28 goals, this being the seventh time she has topped a league's goalscoring charts (three times in Hungary and four times in Austria). The discovery of the year award went to 16-year-old Puskás Akadémia forward, Sinka Napsugár.
Reaction from the winners:
Viktória Szabó, FTC-Telekom (best player):
We've had a very good season. There was no precedent for this, that we could win all our matches and finish with such a high goal average... we even set a club record! In my position, scoring goals is not my number one task, but I've played more bravely and confidently since last season and taking into account the number of goals, I can see a drastic improvement. In addition, during the winter break, we played training matches with teams who reach the Champions League every year, so we were able to increase the team's confidence in themselves this way. Nevertheless, the championship final was both physically and mentally difficult. As far as my performance is concerned, I've improved mostly in terms of confidence. Even though I've always been a starter at Fradi, I've now got it in my head enough to be able to use all these years of experience.
Fanny Vágó, FTC-Telekom (top goalscorer):
The goal set from the very beginning was to win the league title without defeat. Our strategy is based on always setting bigger goals for ourselves, and I think this motivated every player in the team. What I added to the team's performance is mentality and courage, but I emphasise that behind our performance is a whole team of backroom staff. Everyone's goal is to do well in the Champions League. The next step would be to play as many international training matches as possible. We've been through a lot of difficulties in the past year, but still we remained united and stuck together. We play a much more direct, goal-centric game, and we have put our defence in order too, as shown by the fact that we conceded the fewest goals.
Sinka Napsugár Puskás Akadémia (discovery of the year):
I have a long season behind me now, with several low points including losing the Hungarian Cup final. However, I've improved a lot this season and the chemistry between the seniors and the youngsters is very good within the team. Regarding the more long-term future, my main aim is to establish myself in the first team and prove to the national-team head coach that I'm up to the task.
